AN ACTING Director of Aberystwyth Arts Centre has been announced.

Louise Amery, who has held the position Deputy Director since 2001, was announced as being seconded to act as Director on the 5th July.

She replaces Hewson, who announced his retirement earlier this month after 28 years of leading the Centre.

Amery first joined the Arts Centre as Marketing Manager in 1993, before being appointed Deputy Director in 2001.

Speaking of her appointment, Amery said: “I’m proud to have been part of the Arts Centre team for the last twenty years and look forward to working with colleagues to build on what has already been achieved.”

“Our priority remains to continue to deliver a programme of fantastic arts events and activities for the whole community to enjoy.”

A week after announcing his retirement, Hewson attended the International Ceramics Festival at the Arts Centre on Saturday 29th June.

He was greeted with cheers by those in attendance, amidst further turmoil as honorary economics professor Dr. John Cable  resigned his position, following Hewson’s retirement and the suspension of Auriel Martin.

Cable, who was previously head of economics in the 1990s, accused the University of being “disproportionate, aggressive and confrontational” and said that they were driving “extraordinary talent” from the Arts Centre.

Amery is to take up her new role with immediate effect.

The process to appoint a new Director to succeed Alan Hewson is underway.
