The President of the Students’ Union for the 2013/ 2014 academic year is Ioan Rhys Evans.

The result was made available at midday on Monday 18th March. The six candidates who had run for the position were informed of the winner prior to the  information being made public.

Evans was elected to the position in the first stage with 1065 votes. Guy Drury came in second with 461, followed by Ryan Brown with 252, Zachary Virgo with 121, RON with 80, David Ingles with 56 and MA Kaimesan with 21.  Voting did not go into a second round as Evans passed the required quota of half of votes placed.

No formal announcement was made as the vote count had been suspended for over a week due to a “serious complaint” made to the Elections Committee. Following further investigation into the complaint, the NUS Returning Officer decided that there was “a lack of evidence to illustrate a detrimental impact on the election itself or to support a disqualification of candidates.”

Evans, the current Activities Officer, will take over from Ben Meakin, who has been President of the Students’ Union for two years.
