Olympic Torch relay: all the information

THE OLYMPIC Torch will be coming to Aberystwyth on Sunday 27th and Monday 28th May. Here’s a rundown of the events and the route the torch will be taking. On both days, we’ll keep you updated with text and pictures via Twitter – follows us at @AberCourier!

The torch arrives in Penparcau at 6:14pm. It then comes into town across the bridge and goes up Bridge Street to the top of town, outside Yokos. The torch will then be carried down Great Darkgate Street, along Terrace Road (past KFC), past the bus station and then down Plascrug Avenue, the park which runs down the side of Argos/Iceland.

At around 6:45pm, the torch relay finishes at a special event held on Vicarage Fields (next to the cemetery on Llanbadarn Road), where Cardiff band Kids In Glass Houses will be performing alongside local artists, school children and others. The show starts at 5pm and gates open at 4pm.

The torch will start the day at the top of Constitution Hill at 8am, and is then run down the hill where the bearer will “kick the bar” outside Alexandra Hall. The torch will then be carried along the Prom, through the Castle and down Great Darkgate Street again. The relay will then continue up Penglais Hill, dropping in at the National Library at 8:50am, before boarding a coach at the crossroads at the very top of the hill at 9:07am.
