Car fire disrupts quiet Sunday on seafront

TODAY, at 4:05 pm, a Renault Clio caught fire when the owner went to turn on the ignition.

Witnesses in the American Diner called the fire brigade, who arrived on the scene within 10 minutes to put out the fire and clear up the oil which had spilled onto the road. Firemen requested that everyone remain indoors.

Two witnesses at the scene said: “The driver tried to start his car, but the ignition got stuck and wouldn’t turn off. It caused an oil leak and loads of smoke.

The car has since been removed from the scene. No one was injured.
