A look forward to the Pearl Izumi Tour and Aber Downhill

THIS Friday afternoon the best UK cycling teams descend upon Aberystwyth to take part in the third stage of the country wide tour and the only stage in Wales. The nine regular teams and guest for this circuit race Team Easton Ritte will compete for the yellow jersey around the town’s streets, with the main race starting in Pier Street, passing through Upper Great Darkgate Street, Seaview Place, the promenade and back onto Pier Street for a sprint back up the hill and towards the line.

Now in its sixth year in Aber the race always delivers tension and drama, with fans lining the streets to see some of the nation’s best cyclists, this year including Team WIGGINS, Bradley Wiggins’ own team venture. With him, Olympic champions Ed Clancy and Steven Burke will be vying for the number one spot.

After two races, the points table is still very tight at the top, with Madison Genesis leading by just one point over ONE Team Cycling. Both teams raced well last year but were pipped at the post by Rapha Condor-JLT.

Jon Mould from Madison Genesis was last year’s sprint champion and will be looking for even more success for his team and himself but with stiff competition across the board this year’s street circuit race is set to be a real treat.

And if that’s not enough cycling action for you then the Aber downhill BMX competition starts on Saturday morning. Set yourself up on Constitution Hill for a view of the time trials starting at the very top down to the front of Alexandra Halls. The town is set for a thrilling weekend starting at 19:30pm on Pier Street so get own to the finish line for the best in UK cycling.
