Varsity 2015 Match Report: Women’s Hockey fail to take chances

UNDER the beaming North Wales lights which glared off the newly-laid astroturf, Aberystwyth’s Women’s Hockey 1st team set up ample opportunities but failed to make them pay.

In total AUWHC had over 7 short corners, 4 of them in the first half, which were scraped off the line twice by the valiant Bangor defence. In the first half Aber also had a goal disallowed from a short corner as the ball hit the net of the goal, following a goal mouth scramble set up by an Amy Reed shot.

Imogen Coggins continued her good regular season form with her dribbling, beating half a dozen of the Bangor team with every venture downfield, but sadly her creative playmaking could not be transferred into goals. The second half continued in the same vein but with under 10 minutes to go Bangor claimed both their first and second goals. Stand out performers for AUWHC were Jen Glasgow, whose perseverance was clear to see, and Elen Williams who kept things tight at the back.
