The new train services will depart Aberystwyth at 06:30, 08:30, 12:30 and 18:30 GMT.

In addition, there will be two new return Sunday services, leaving Aberystwyth at 10:30 and 14:33 GMT.

The announcement means that 20 new jobs will be created through new opportunities in both depot and crew roles.

Elsewhere, the Heart of Wales line will have extra journeys between Llandrindod and Shrewsbury/Crewe, and Llandovery and Gowerton/Swansea.

Aberystwyth station has recently undergone upgrading though a European funded project worth £3.1m.

The decision to move to an hourly service was taken in April last year and was described as a ‘massive boost for Ceredigion’. The decision came after several years of campaigning from many local residents, and the publication of the Cambrian Railways report in late 2013.
