In a statement, Aberystwyth University Students’ Union stated that;

“Following an investigation of alleged breaches of the Students’ Union’s initiations policy for clubs, created in line with guidance from the British University & Colleges Sport, Aberystwyth Men’s Rugby Union Club has been suspended until the end of the 2014-2015 academic year by a panel of trustees of the Students’ Union.

The Students’ Union is very clear that while social events for clubs and societies are an integral part of their activities, so called ‘initiation ceremonies’ are not.  The trustees received evidence from multiple individuals that Men’s Rugby Union had been running initiation ceremonies through the year and felt the decision to suspend the club was a proportional response.  The club have an opportunity to appeal the union’s decision through Schedule 3 of the Union’s governance policies.

Aberystwyth Students’ Union will not be commenting further on this matter.”
