Bar Council of India approves Aberystwyth Law degrees

The Bar Council of India has approved Aberystwyth University’s law degree schemes, allowing LLM and LLB degree students to practice law in India. The recognition also gives Indian students the opportunity to study law in Aberystwyth.

Founded in 1901, the Department of Law and Criminology is the oldest in Wales. law

Professor John Williams, Head of the Department of Law and Criminology, said;

“This recognition provides our students from India with an excellent opportunity to pursue high quality degrees taught by leading academics at Aberystwyth University. The Department has a long and distinguished reputation as a centre for the study of law for international students. We look forward to welcoming students from India.”

Ruth Owen Lewis, Director of the International Office said;

“We were very pleased to welcome the higher delegation from the Bar Council of India to our Law department, which has a great history in teaching and research. This recognition will enable us to promote more effectively our excellent Law degrees in India, which is a very important country market for Aberystwyth “

 

Further collaboration with Law Schools in India will be discussed in February when representatives from the University will travel to India to meet with the Bar Council.
