ON FRIDAY night, September the 26th, Park Avenue, the home of Aberystwyth Town Football Club held its first Student Night of the year. Despite competing with The Student Union and a guest DJ set from Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn, Avenue saw an attendance of 522, with 130 hot dogs being sold as part of the Student offer of admission, a free hot dog and shot for £2.

On the field, Aberyswtyth, and visitors Bala Town had started their Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League well, Aberystwyth unbeaten and Bala only losing once. The league’s two top goalscorers both started, Chris Venables for the Seasider’s and Mark Connolly for the away sides. It was to be Venables’ night, his side claiming a 4-0 win, and Venables, a former Llanelli and Shrewsbury Town man scored his sides 4th (and his 10th league goal in 8 games) from the spot with over 10 minutes to play.

Both sides came to play, with Aber’s Geoff Kellaway showing flashes of his speed on both wings, experienced ex-Premier League centre-half Stephen Wright was calm head at Centre-Back as the home side were clinical in attack and Bala lacked a finishing touch all night.

Aberystwyth Town’s next fixture is away to Newtown next Saturday at 2.30pm.
