Porter named in “unexplained” Arts Centre death

ABERYSTWYTH University has paid tribute to University porter, Liam Wood, who was found dead outside Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Monday (4th) evening at around 7:30pm.

Liam Wood, who was in his 20s, joined the Arts Centre in August last year and was a well regarded member of the team.

Pro vice-chancellor, Rebecca Davies, said in an e-mail to staff:

“It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the sudden death of Liam Wood. Liam was a Porter at Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

“Liam joined the Arts Centre in August 2013 and was a hugely valued and well-liked member of the team.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and those who worked closely with him, at this very difficult time.”

A police investigation has been opened, with a spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police stating that:

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a male at Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth.

“Next of kin have been advised. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.”

The Arts Centre released a statement yesterday that it was closed due to “unforeseen and sad circumstances.”, with all screening and shows cancelled on the Tuesday (5th).
