Controversial wind turbine to be removed from Welsh Government Office

_76158354_turbineA CONTROVERSIAL wind turbine, currently sited on top of the Welsh Government office building in Aberystwyth, is to be removed.

Initially part of a range of environmentally friendly features for the building when installed in 2009, a Freedom of Information Act request showed that turbine had only produced an average of 33kWh per month, generating £5.28 per month based on market prices. Initially mechanical problems were blamed, though the company who installed it had warned the Welsh Government that it was sighted incorrectly for maximum wind exposure.

The turbine has been offline since January due to a fault, and after her makers Quiet Revolution went into liquidation, it became increasingly difficult to maintain. Ministers have now decided to remove the turbine as finding a company to maintain and repair it was extremely limited.
