Summer lifestyle: cocktail ideas

IN THE SPIRIT of summer, I have compiled a list of some summery tasting cocktails. Feel inspired to adapt them with other ingredients or just soak in the flavour and the sun; be it in a garden party or just at dinner.

Strawberry Gin Smash (pitcher)

2 tablespoons sugar
2 limes, juiced, about 4 tablespoons
1 pound fresh strawberries
2 cups gin
3 cups club soda
Fresh mint sprigs, to garnish

Mix the sugar and limes in a pitcher that holds at least 8 cups (64 ounces). Remove about 6 strawberries and make a small slice in the tip of them. Hull and slice the remaining strawberries then jumble the portions delicately with the sugar and lime juice.

Stir in the gin and sparkling water and fill the pitcher with. Accompany this with mint to garnish. Pour your cocktail into icy glasses and decorate with a strawberry on the side of your glass. Sip and enjoy.

The Vesper Martini: The drink of Bond

Lille Blanc

Add the vodka, gin and Lille Blanc in a mixing glass with ice and shake to mix. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass and douse a slice of lemon and squeeze its juices into the cocktail. Rub the rim of the glass with the lemon slice and then drop it into the mixture.

Melon Ball:

2 oz Melon Liqueur
1 oz Vodka
4oz pineapple juice
Lime wedge

Pour the vodka into an ice-filled glass. Add the melon liqueur. Pour in the pineapple juice. Use the lime wedge and the cherry for garnish. Sip through a straw and enjoy your creation.
