Game of Thrones mid season review: Masterpiece

game-of-thrones-season-4-dragon-emilia-clarke-600x337NOW IN ITS fourth season, Game of Thrones has become a global sensation. We are half way through this season and we have already had a number of big moments that have left us desperately wanting more. Fear not, we still have the second half of the season to go before we have the long wait for Season 5 in 2015.

So far this season we have had everything of the death of a main character (finally!) to the mad scene at the end of episode 4 that saw the appearance of the ‘Night King’. The performance of the cast has been incredible as always, with the character development showing through this season. Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) particularly has come into his  as the menacing grandpa who knows all. Likewise, scenes between Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Rory McCann (Sandor ‘the Hound’ Clegane) have been brilliant, with The Hound giving some quality lines that have had us in stitches.

There has been some controversy over a rape scene involving Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister) and Lena Heady (Cersei Lanister)  that broke away from canon. Despite the director claiming that the scene was meant to show Cersei’s consent, it does not come off that way and turns into a rather horrid scene.

Despite this however, the series has been just as good as always. With what seems like an even bigger budget for this season, each scene seems a no expense spared masterpiece. Of particular note, is the trial scene, where once again Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) impresses as an actor in one of his best performances yet. Giving an impressive speech about how he has been on trial for being a dwarf his whole life and finally unleashing all his pent up anger for everyone around him.

With so much more still to come from this season, I for one, cannot wait to find out what happens!
