A GROUP of Academic and Institute Representatives have compiled 34 signatures on an open letter which they sent out on Wednesday (26th) to the University regarding the threatened UCU marking boycott due to commence this April 28th:

To: Vice-Chancellor April McMahon and Pro Vice-Chancellors Rebecca Davies, John Grattan, Chris Thomas and Rhodri Llwyd Morgan.

Stop It Before It Starts

In our capacity as Academic/Institute Representatives we are extremely worried about the impending marking boycott threatened by UCU. We feel that such action will have a profound effect in the short-term and in the long-term on the university and on higher education nationally. We fear the repercussions this will have on final year students due to graduate over the summer and the atmosphere of anxiety it will create for students across the university.

We believe the higher education sector can afford to make a fair offer that ends the pay cuts for staff and it should do so now. Therefore we, the undersigned, ask that you make a public statement that you will call on UCEA to make a fair pay offer that can end this dispute before our studies and those of thousands of other students are further disrupted.

We shall not tolerate the situation where students that we represent have to needlessly suffer due to the mistakes of others, and we shall stand with the lecturers and support staff that are the backbone of this university to ensure this does not happen.

Yours,
