THE WEATHER has remained dry for the last few days, allowing a total of 21 Digs League fixtures to be played since our last update.

On Sunday there were eight games played, starting in La Liga where Tom Cottrell took his scoring total for the season up to 24 as Prestige Worldwide beat Aberconda 7-0. Despite the heavy loss, Aberconda defender Erik Olsson was named man of the match.

Abertina beat Goal Diggers 6-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Aiden Commons, and the other game from La Liga was abandoned as We Hate Ben couldn’t raise a team – FC Hammer have been awarded a 6-0 win.

In the Premier League, FC Leave-My-Arcelona overcame Athletico Bil-Banter 7-0 and FC Inter Yournan walloped Aberzaijan 10-1, Jonny Evans notching his second treble of the season. Elsewhere Tom Reynolds got the winner as SH Pandas beat AC ALSOM 1-0, and Academic Athletic drew 2-2 with Notinher Forest.

In the Bundesliga, Sex Panthers kicked off the day by demolishing Aber Lions 9-0, Andy Roberts scoring three, before Aber Kadabra succumbed to a 3-1 defeat by FC Beaver.

Monday morning saw two Bundesliga teams meet on the Astro in the Consolation Shield as Toke City prevailed over Pathetic Athletic with captain Alban Fernandez bagging a hat-trick, in a 6-1 win.

The key game during the last week was the Aber Town cup semi-final between Prestige Worldwide and Bassett’s Allsort Army on Monday. In a scrappy first half Prestige managed to take the lead thanks to a deflection which allowed Josh Watts to get his 9th of the season, and in an equally scrappy second period Bradley Thorne doubled the lead.

The tide quickly turned though, and the cricketers, who did their pre-match warm up in cricket whites, were piling on the pressure towards the end. Andrew Noakes got one back for the Allsorts, before Prestige defender Thorne was sent off for a second bookable offence. A second goal never came for Bassets and Prestige will meet We Hate Ben or Sex Panthers in the final.

Wednesday began at 10am on the Astro with the second of the four Consolation Shield quarter-finals between SH Pandas and Obi Wan Kenobi Nil. Obi Wan raced into a 4-0 lead within 20 minutes, thanks to an Adam Brelsford brace, before a late goal from Jonny Mummery confirmed a 5-0 victory.

In the afternoon the Premier League kicked things off and FC Leave-My-Arcelona tanked Aberzaijan 7-1 with a contender for goal of the season from Sam Risby. Meanwhile Gus Harris bagged a brace as Academic Athletic squeezed past FC Inter Yournan 2-1, and Notinher Forest were unlucky to be on the losing side against CPD Y Geltaidd, losing 4-3.

La Liga saw four games, We Hate Ben smashed Goal Diggers 7-1, whilst Abertina also achieved a six goal margin against Ivory Toast, winning 6-0. S.E.S. won 2-1 against Borussia Teeth with a double from Shaun Roberts and in the battle of the two unbeaten teams, a Tom Sparks hat-trick helped FC Hammer overcome Prestige Worldwide 4-3.

On Thursday morning, the Astro played host to the third Consolation Shield quarter-final. In a wind-affected game Aber Kadabra pulled off the cup upset of the year, beating holders FC Leave-My-Arcelona 3-2 thanks to a last-minute winner from Dave Bates. Arcelona had been ahead through an own goal before Kadabra had taken a quick 2-1 lead, only for Chris Morris to equalise before half time. The second half was much tighter from both teams and, as Arcelona dominated the game for long spells, they were caught off-guard by Bates who struck the dramatic winner. The final quarter-final takes place on Monday morning between Notinher Forest and Goal Diggers.

Thursday’s Aberystwyth Town Cup semi-final between Sex Panthers and We Hate Ben was postponed due to a water-logged pitch and re-arranged for Tuesday 25th March, 4.30pm kick off.
