Aber SU nominated for NUS Wales Awards

NUS WalesABERYSTWYTH University Students’ Union (AUSU) has been nominated in three categories for the upcoming NUS Wales Awards 2014, including in the highly coveted ‘Higher Education Student’s Union’ of the Year category.

Currently in their third year, the awards have received more than 90 nominations from across Wales, and have been reduced down to a few contenders for each category. The categories are wide ranging and reward students, student officers, SU’s, and University staff for a wide range of skills and successes from across the student movement.

In addition to the ‘Higher Education Students’ Union of the Year’ Award, AUSU has been nominated for the ‘Officer Team of the Year’ Award, and Laura Dickens is attempting to make it two ‘Campaign of the Year’ Awards in as many years, in recognition of her continued Housing Campaign as AUSU Welfare Officer.

AUSU Chief Executive, John Glasby commented that he was “delighted” with the nominations and paid tribute to the “hard work and dedication of staff and officers”, who he said had “worked extremely hard to ensure that our Students’ Union is fit for purpose for current and future students.”

Mr. Glasby added that “We are constantly looking to improve our support and services for students, but much has already been achieved and it is very pleasing to see this recognised by our peers.”

Ms. Dickens, who’s ‘Student Housing Survey Report 2012’ was commended in the Houses of Parliament, said she was “exceptionally honoured and humbled” to be nominated for the ‘Campaign of the Year’ Award. She added: “I’m happy that I’ll leave behind a model contract for Students, and that we’ve gotten so far with the Welsh Assembly.

“The competition is tough but I’m just happy to feel like the hard work put in has been noticed and I hope students will notice the difference as time goes on.”

The winners will be announced during the annual NUS Wales Awards dinner on Wednesday 26th March at The Pierhead, Cardiff.
