Harriers making strides at national championships

HarriersFOUR Aberystwyth University athletes traveled to Sheffield to take part in the BUCS Gatorade National Indoor Athletics Championships on the weekend of the 21st of February and produced some impressive results against some of the best athletes across in the UK. These included international athletes, such as Andrew Pozzi and Isobel Pooley, who both broke championship records in the 60m hurdles and high jump that weekend.

First up for Aberystwyth was Danielle Georgiou, who ran a great race in the 60m sprint to finish 4th in her heat with a personal best time of 8.18 seconds. With this time she narrowly missed out on a semi-final place by 7 hundredths of a second. Danielle later ran another personal best of 27.6 seconds in the 200m.

Adam Runacres and Scott Hudspith both ran well in the 1500m to earn themselves PB’s of 4 minutes 55 seconds and 4 minutes 22 seconds respectively, with Scott also missing out on a place in the semi-final by only 3 seconds.

For the 3000m race, Marc Tilley stepped up to run 15 laps of the 200m track to finish in a respectable time of 10 minutes 13 seconds.

These were great results for the club and will give the athletes something to work on for Varsity at this month and the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships competitions which will be held in Bedford this year, on the weekend of the 3rd of May.
