Nominations open for SLTAs

NOMINATIONS have opened for the third annual Student Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs). Each year, students are given the opportunity to nominate staff, student representatives and departments for the following categories:slta

– Outstanding Teaching Award
– Support Staff of the Year
– Award for Excellence in Welsh-Medium Education
– Postgraduate Teacher Award
– New Staff Member of the Year
– Student Representative of the Year
– Department of the Year

When asked about the SLTAs, Education Officer Grace Burton said: “The Student-Led Teaching Awards are a really great way of recognising those lecturers, students and other staff who go above and beyond to make our time in Aberystwyth outstanding.”

Following the Student Conference that took place in February, Grace launched the SLTAs at a drinks reception which invited students to vote for new categories in the awards with New Staff Member of the Year, Excellence in Welsh-Medium Education, and Postgraduate Teacher Award being the winners. She said that she was “really excited especially to see the nominations coming in for those categories”.

She added that “Students who send in a successful nomination will be invited along on the evening, so I’d recommend taking the time to write a high-quality nomination and I look forward to seeing some of you on the night!”

The nomination period is open until the 4th April and there will be a ceremony on Friday 2nd May for successful nominations. The winners will be decided by a judging panel of staff and students who will also choose three ‘highly commended’ runner-ups.

Last year, over 250 nominations were received by former Education Officer Jess Leigh. Full details on how to nominate can be found here.
