THE EASTGATE outlet of the local Chip Box chain in Aberystwyth has been closed under a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order by the town’s magistrate, on the request of Ceredigion County Council, due to a rat infestation problem.

Environmental Health Officers inspected the shop because of a complaint received on the 21st November by a concerned member of the public. A Council spokesperson stated that the inspection ‘revealed a serious rodent infestation which necessitated the immediate closure of the premises’.

According to the Cambrian News, owner of the shop Dave Taylor, claimed that the problem resulted out of building work which began at the former tile/bathroom shop adjacent.  Taylor said that he had called the pest control officer, and is now co-operating fully with the council’s environmental health department. He said: “I want it dealt with properly, and I have no issue with closure of the shop for as long as it takes”.

The Chip Box also has takeaways on the Aberystwyth Seafront, in Penparcau and a few miles south in Llanon.
