STUDENTS studying Law or Criminology have been informed of the resignation of Reverend Professor Noel Cox as Head of the Department for Law and Criminology.

Yesterday morning an e-mail was sent out to all students registered with the department informing them of the decision. The e-mail was sent by long standing Aberystwyth University Professor John Williams who has been asked by the University to act as Interim Head of Department until a successor is appointed.

In the e-mail, Professor Williams, who specialises in “the impact of the law on older people including social care and health care law”, discussed many issues including the new Llanbadarn campus. He stated that the concerns expressed by students about the campus have “been passed on to the University management and a plan of action is in place – including the installation of a cash machine”.

In the e-mail Professor Williams also stressed the importance of communication between students and the department saying: “your views and opinions are very important to us” and spoke about the work of staff and the Staff-Student Consultative Committee.

The Reverend Professor Noel Cox will continue to work at the department “to concentrate on other aspects of his work”.
