LAST NIGHT (24th), the results of the Students’ Union Autumn Elections were announced.

Over the course of the 23rd and 24th October, students could vote for representatives and liberation officers to Aberystwyth Students’ Union. The results of these elections can be found below.

Union elections are ran using the Alternative Vote system where voters rank the candidates in order of preference. For a candidate to be elected they must gain more than 50% of the first-preference votes.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the first preference votes it will go to the next round which the candidate with the least am out of first-preference votes is eliminated from. Any ballots that placed the eliminated candidate as their first preference are reallocated to those they placed as their second preference. This process is repeated until a winning candidate is found.

When there are multiple positions available (such as Community Representative) the number of votes required to be elected is divided between the number of candidates that ran (e.g if 100 votes are cast between four different candidates, they would need more than 25 votes to be elected).
