A SECURITY notice has been sent to all students following an incident on the bridge outside Pentre Jane Morgan, the student village.

Last night (1st March), Rebecca Davies, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student and Staff Services, sent an email alerting students to the increased security in and around Pentre Jane Morgan, and reminded them of the need to take safety and security seriously.

She continued to remind them of the low crime rate within Aberystwyth (it was named the safest place in England and Wales in January), but stressed the need for vigilance and common sense.

The University released the following  guidelines regarding personal safety:

  • At night, try not to walk alone, particularly in areas which are poorly lit.
  • “Walk with a Friend” – look out for each other.
  • If you are anxious, take a taxi. The fares are modest.
  • The student-run Nightline operates during the night hours and may be contacted for details of taxi companies etc. on 01970 621717. More details are available online at http://nightline.aber.ac.uk/
  • Dyfed Powys Police also offer personal safety advice through its local neighbourhood policing team via the non-emergency number 101 or go to http://www.dyfed-powys.police.uk/

Further information about the incident in question has not yet been released.
