FORMER Aberystwyth University Rugby Union first team captain Greg Lewis has had his penalty decreased following his ban from BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) after an incident last year in an Aberystwyth bar which resulted in a complaint being lodged by staff.

Lewis secured the vote from the majority of the Students’ Union Board of Trustees to have his ban reduced from the rest of the season to four games.

In his appeal, Lewis stated that he had felt his punishment was unfair compared to the other two players involved in the incident, Toby Hiscox and Mike Eastwell who were banned for three games each.

The success of Lewis’ appeal, brought forward on 2 January 2013, means that he will be available to take part in the final two games of the BUCS season, but will remain stripped of his captaincy. The Rugby Union team are yet to appoint his replacement.
