LLANBADARN Fawr Community Council, who cover Cwrt Mawr halls of residence, voted to increase the amount of council tax they claim with just 30 seconds notice to councillors at a meeting on Monday night.

University student and Labour Party councillor Pedro Diogo said he was “outraged” after the move.

Llanbadarn Fawr Community Council charges a precept, which is an amount added to the council tax bill levied by Ceredigion Council. The money goes towards services such as repairs to local amenities and administration for the council.

The increase, of £1 per head, was approved in a meeting of the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee just before a meeting of the main council.

But the budget was then brought up under “Any Other Business”, with no notice or information provided.

According to Diogo, councillors were able to consider the proposals for 30 seconds before being asked to vote on them.

The budget was passed.
