Scaffolding supports full structural examination

FOLLOWING the installation of the canopy outside the Arts Centre in October after a piece of masonry was reported to have fallen onto the decking, the University has ordered a full structural examination of the external facades of the Hugh Owen Building. Scaffolding has been erected between the library and A12 to ensure students’ safety.

A spokesperson for the University told The Courier that “the survey will inform decisions on possible recladding of the buildings in future. The work is part of the University’s Estates Strategy and is designed to improve the sustainability of all our buildings. We are grateful to staff and students who have been patient whilst the inspection and repairs (if needed) are made.”
