Students’ Union election results in full

RESULTS of the second round of Aberystwyth University Students’ Union autumn election were announced this evening.

The elections ran using the Alternative Vote (AV) system, where voters rank candidates in order of preference. To be elected under AVyou must acquire more than 50% of the vote. If a candidate receives more than 50% of first-preference votes, they are elected.

If no-one receives more than 50% of first preference votes, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated, and any ballots which ranked them in first place have their second preferences re-allocated to all the candidates. This process is repeated until one candidate has more than 50% of the vote (or if there are only two candidates left, the one with the highest number of votes wins).

The election for Community Representatives was delayed owing to the large number of votes cast, and the count for the Cwrt Mawr Hall Representative is to be repeated, owing to an irregularity with the results sheet. Both will occur next week.

Correction: an earlier version of this article incorrectly described the above elections as having been run under the Single Transferable Vote system. They were run under the Alternative Vote system, as they were for single-member positions.
