Death of International Politics student announced

NICHOLAS Dutton, a second-year student in the Department of International Politics, has died.

In a statement, Acting Head of the Department Dr Jenny Mathers said that it was with “great sadness” that the Department learnt of his death.
“A mature student, Nicholas had served with the Territorial Army and had extensive experience of employment before beginning his studies in Aberystwyth.

“He was passionate about the subject he studied and had a great fascination with the big questions which lie at the heart of international politics, such as war and peace, and the relationship between ethics and the exercise of power.

“Nicholas put considerable effort into his academic work. He was a very likeable man who was admired by members of staff and students in the Department, where his loss will be felt. We extend our heart-felt condolences to his family and friends.”

Dutton, who listed himself on his Facebook profile as studying International Politics and Intelligence Studies, was a member of Tarannau Aberystwyth (American Football). According to a post on their official Facebook page, Dutton was found dead at his home on the morning on 17th October.

According to their post, “initial reports indicate no suggestion of any suspicious circumstances”.

It is believed that Dutton left behind a young son.
