Students clean up local beach

YESTERDAY morning 20 students volunteered to do a clean up on Tan-Y-Bwlch beach.  They spent a couple of hours combing the seashore, getting rid of unsightly cans, bottles, plastic and random objects thrown ashore by the sea.  To reward them for their hard work, refreshments were provided at the Boat House by the Aberystwyth Tea Appreciation Society.  The event provided an opportunity for new students to see a different part of Aberystwyth, to find out about more volunteering opportunities and to network with other societies.

Natalie Farner who is studying Equine Science said, “I had a great time, it was a lovely experience and I feel very helpful!”

The Students’ Union has a long established relationship with the charity ‘Keep Wales Tidy’.  The aim of the charity is to maintain a beautiful Wales by working with local authorities, schools and community groups.  The relationship we have with the environment is enormously significant in terms of our health and well-being, and activities such as beach cleans not only benefit the coast but also bring people together to enjoy themselves.
