Bad day for University rugby sides

Aberystwyth University RFC surge forward to get a tryALL OF the University’s rugby sides in action yesterday failed to win, despite courageous efforts by the mens 1st team against Trinity Carmarthen in a game that was switched to Vicarage Fields at the last minute.

The side eventually lost 17-26 but, at the 60 minute mark, the side were winning and looked to have a control on the game. However an injury to their prop, Toby Hiscox, saw him stretchered off with a neck injury, although fears that his injury was serious was allayed when he was out on the team social that night.

The tempo of the game changed afterwards and the more experienced Trinity Carmarthen side took advantage and seized control. Number 15, Matt Spicer gave a man of the match performance as he put in great effort and made several crucial try saving tackles.

Debuts were given to Tom Ellis-Williams, Illutd Daffyd, Iwan Mullin and Jacob Weaver-Jones.

The 2nd team suffered a crashing defeat away to Bristol’s 4th team, losing 59-5. Two thirds of the side were freshers and the new players will take experience from the defeat, which saw a great performance by scrum-half Chris Dennehy.

The womens 1st team also lost 22-5 to University College Plymouth 1st team.
