Plas Gogerddan Nursery future in doubt

THE future of the University Nursery at Plas Gogerddan is in doubt this week as it is revealed that the current management could not find a suitable ongoing strategy. The contract to run the nursery that exists between the University and Bright Horizons is due to expire on 30th September of this year.

In an email sent to students this week, Rebecca Davies explained that discussions were still ongoing with a “local managment team” to find a workable solution that allows the University to provide this vital service after September.

“A number of different management options have been explored with Bright Horizons but it has not been possible for the company to find a way to continue managing the nursery…..The University has a clear commitment to support our staff who are parents, both through our desire to work with the Plas Gogerddan team and our own recently opened in-house Penglais Nursery.”

The Aberystwyth branch of the UCU is still consulting with its members about the situation.

Discussions are ongoing and no date has yet been fixed on when an annoucment will be made about the Nursery’s future.

The closure of Plas Gogerddan would leave the only childcare provision for the University contained within the new Penglais Hill Medical Centre
