Community rallies round as floodwaters recede

NORTH CEREDIGION awoke to scenes of devastation this morning as floodwaters began to recede, leaving hundreds of people to begin to assess the damage to their homes after over 24 hours of rainfall.

Local residents were quick to rally round and a Facebook group for co-ordinating offers of help, “Aberystwyth Flood Victims“, grew to over a thousand members in 24 hours. The University have opened a disused building on the Plas Gogerddan campus to house Ystwyth Surgery, whose premises were ruined by floodwaters on Saturday.

As road and rail links re-open, the chance of students being stuck in Aberystwyth has decreased, but any students who are still unable or concerned about leaving Aber are advised to call the  University Accommodation Office on 01970 622900, or call in the office in Penbryn.

Advice has been issued by Ceredigion County Council to local residents planning on returning to their homes
