Pop down to Pride on the Prom

THIS weekend will see Aberystwyth host the very first “Pride on the Prom”, featuring a 3-day programme of entertainment, ranging from bands, cinema, drama workshops, drag queens, fashion show, DJ’s, disco, comediennes, stalls and more, from Friday, June 1st to Sunday June 3rd.

The event is organised by AberLGBT in partnership with Aberystwyth Town Council, and aims to be a family fun weekend for local and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans) people and will take place in various venues in Aberystwyth (the Prom & Bandstand, Harleys Bar, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Student Union and Football Club).

The weekend aims to promote a celebration of diversity and equality for the whole of the mid-West Wales. The organisers say it’s about “creating and ensuring that there’s an environment where everybody is accepted for who they are and where sexuality is not a barrier”.

The event is supported by volunteers, local businesses and public sector organisations including Ceredigion County Council, Dyfed-Powys Police, Aberystwyth University, the Guild of Students, AberPride/AberBalch and Unison Cymru/Wales

AberLGBT are voluntary group formed in 2011 run by a mixture of locals and students through a LGBT volunteer committee. They hope that the event will help to fund a LGBT trained Youth Worker for Ceredigion, and with connections already made with Aberystwyth Town Council, Ceredigion County Council, Dyfed Powys Police and Aberystwyth University, help promote local LGBT aims at a regional government level.
