New Penglais health centre opens

Padarn doctor’s surgery, formerly located on Northgate Street in Aberystwyth, has relocated to new premises on Penglais Hill, opposite the main university campus. The surgery, housing eight GPs as well as nursing staff, completed the move in March.

The new site has also seen the move of Lloyds Pharmacy to the Penglais development, relocating from their previous premises in the town centre. The opening of new services close to the main university campus has been welcomed by students.

The site is also home to a new day nursery providing childcare services to Aberystwyth University staff and students, as well as members of the local community. The nursery, which opened on 12th April, has spaces for a total of 73 children, and will be working closely with the baby unit currently located in Rosser Hall on campus.

Building work is also nearing completion for a ‘Student Wellness Centre’, which will deal with student counselling and other health and pastoral issues. It has also been suggested that counselling staff currently located in the Guild of Students will be moving to the new premises in time for the next academic year, and being transferred from the control of the Guild to the university, in line with standard practice throughout the UK.
