Ex-student Boudier to stand down as mayor

RICHARD Boudier has announced plans to stand down as mayor of Aberystwyth in May this year. The former international politics student announced he would not be standing for a further term due to difficulties balancing his ceremonial duties and his full time job as a Service Team Manager at The Co-operative in Aberystwyth.

Boudier released a statement saying “It’s very difficult to commit to the town council and the job of mayor when you have a full-time job… I work up to 50 hours a week and then another 15 to 20 on top for the town council.”

He will remain a “committed activist” for the Labour Party for whom he became a councillor while a student at Aberystwyth University. He became mayor last May, making him the youngest mayor in the town’s history.

Boudier also added via Twitter, “I think it’s been a case where I’ve done too much too young, and I want to focus on other priorities now.”
