Christmas markets: festive and affordable!

DO you enjoy sipping mulled wine outside on a cold Christmas night? Or do you prefer a crepe and a pretzel to warm you up? Fancy a shifty look around a traditional craft fair stall? Or looking for an alternative way to do your Christmas shopping? Visiting a Christmas market will tick all these boxes! There are hundreds of Christmas markets around the UK during this festive season where carols are sung, decorations are lit and traditions are celebrated!

The largest outdoor Christmas market in the country is in Birmingham, and luckily for us, it is easily accessible from Aber! The train leaves Aberystwyth station every two hours to go to Birmingham New Street and costs less than £20. The Birmingham Christmas market is in Victoria Square and New Street from Thursday 17th November until Friday 23rd December and is open between 10am and 9pm.

Cardiff Christmas market is a renowned attraction which has been running for the past 17 years. It’s in St John’s Street, St John’s Church area, Working Street, Trinity Street and the Hayes. Running from Thursday 10th November to Friday 23rd December, Cardiff Christmas market is a fantastic place to pick up hand-crafted Christmas gifts. Opening times are 10am and 6pm Monday to Saturday, 10 am until 5pm on Sundays and every Thursday in December the market is open until 8pm.

Staying a little bit closer to home, you could visit Aberystwyth’s own Christmas market at the Arts Centre – from now until Christmas, the indoor market has lots of lovely (and affordable) gifts for your family and friends. Opening times are between 8am and 8pm.
