Aber Town: The season so far!

After a pretty impressive 5th placed finish last season, it would be fair to say that Aberystwyth Town Football club haven’t exactly set the league alight with their performances so far this season, as at the time of going to print they sit 9th in the table, out of 12 teams.

One of the main reasons Aber haven’t had a good start to the season is down to their shocking disciplinary record, having had nine players sent off in 15 games. This has severely restricted manager Alan Morgan from fielding an unchanged side, as he has had to make changes to the side pretty much every game.

Out of their previous 15 games (at the time of going to print), Aber have only managed to get all three points on three occasions so far this season, against Port Talbot and beating Newtown twice. They have recorded four draws and eight defeats.

Despite their perilous league position, Aber have somewhat flattered to deceive on occasions this season, with some impressive performances against fourth placed Neath and Port Talbot, whom they recently beat 4-0.

The players that have really stood out so far have been Sean Thornton, the former Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers player, who has very recently penned a new contract with the club until the summer, and striker Lewis Codling constantly looking a threat.

The pressure is mounting upon Alan Morgan’s shoulders and he will have to pull some victories out of the bag if he is to remain in the hot seat, with both local and student supporters starting to get a bit irritated at the poor league position.
