…And now for something completely … quirky! (Societies you may never have known about)

Curtain Call

The Musical Theatre Society

The curtain callers are a group of people obsessed with all things musical and there is no time or place that is inappropriate for singing! Whether it’s on stage or down the pub the “CCs” have a passion for sharing their love of both. They are made up of a close knit group of around 30 active members, who perform a mixture of solos and group songs with choreography. These showcases take place around four times a year in the Union’s Bar 9 everyone is welcome to watch and tickets are £3.50 for students.

At the end of each year is a final big show and tickets are now on sale for this year’s staging of ‘Rent’, directed by Drama student Will Alder. It’s running from 25th -28th May in the Arad Goch Theatre and tickets cost £5 for students with student I.D. and £7 for everyone else. Rent is a musical set in 1990’s New York about a group of young artists trying to cope with poverty and AIDS. Although the subject matter is quite dark, the songs are an upbeat celebration of life and a love of partying.

The Curtain Callers are a friendly and lively group of people who have a passion to perform and share their love of music. Their socials are usually at 8pm on Tuesdays at the Cambrian and often have a dress up theme, like dressing as their favourite song. If you want to get involved and have a chance to sing and be on stage, sign up to the mailing list at [email protected]. Membership is £4. Tickets for Rent can be purchased at the Union. Aberystwyth University Sub –Aqua Club

The Aberystwyth University Sub-Aqua club is a British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) registered university diving club. We enjoy recreational diving in a variety of locations around the United Kingdom, and abroad. We meet on Thursday’s at 7:30pm in the university pool as well as on our weekly socials.

This year, our club has taken on and trained over 30 new divers. They have all reached the first diving grade of Ocean Diver, allowing them to 20m underwater. We have run a host of successful trips this year; venturing to locations such as the Farne Islands, Northumberland, Pembrokeshire, South Wales and to Gozo in the Mediterranean Sea. Gozo was the location of our Easter trip; where we spent a week diving the many reefs and wrecks that the island has to offer (see photos). Previous Easter trips have been to Egypt and other parts of Asia.

The future for the club is bright. We are hoping to purchase a boat for the club, to access more of the local dive sites around Aberystwyth. Our summer plans are to ensure the new committee settles in and run a summer trip down to Pembrokeshire, South Wales; where we will have the chance to experience some of the best wrecks this country has to offer.
